Skills Canada Toronto Competition Results

Skills Canada is a set of Technical Skills Competitions held every year. In late March, Earl Haig students competed in various competitions held throughout the city. Congratulations to Angela Pan for winning the bronze medal in the Desktop publishing competition. In the graphic competition, Earl Haig’s Steven Gans won the gold. In Flash 2d Animation the team of Jee-Yoon Park and Colin Anderson received the Gold medal. For Video Production the team of Jake Leder and Becca McGlashan won silver while of Ivana Dizdar and Johanna Nikoletus won the gold medal and placed top in Toronto for their score.

Steven Gans now moves on to the Provincial competitions in may while the winners in video and animation have a regional qualifying competition. Congratulations to all the students for competing and to their teachers for preparing them so well.

New Course – Culinary Arts

Earl Haig will be offering a NEW Culinary Arts course in the fall! The course will be offered at the Grade 10 level (TFJ2O1); however, it is open to all grades and it is not too late to sign up for it.

We will be having a student information session for this new course on April 22nd at 3:40 pm (after school) in the Earl Haig cafeteria. To attend this session, you MUST pre-register with the Guidance Office between April 13 and 20. Anyone not pre-registered will NOT be admitted.

If you are a parent, we will be holding another information session about this course on Tuesday May 11th at 6:30 pm in the Earl Haig Cafeteria.

At the session you will experience the following:

  • demonstrations from professional chefs
  • descriptions of career experiences in the Culinary Arts industry from professionals in the industry
  • sampling of foods prepared by the chefs
  • information on the skills you will perfect during the course
  • advice from Guidance on how to register for the course

Whether it’s to pursue a new career or simply to learn skills that you will use for the rest of your life, the new, hands-on Culinary Arts class is the option for you! So go to Guidance and register, then come to the information session.

April 8th Modified schedule – Literacy Test Day

Schedule for April 8th – Day 3
Students that are in grade 10 or higher, who are working toward OSSD 1999 and who have not completed the test yet are required to wirte the Ontario Literacy Test. The test is being written by students on April 8th, 2010. Below is the schedule for the Test and the School Day which will start for all other students not writing at 12:45 p.m.

Session 1 – 8:15 – 10:15 a.m.
Break – 10:15 – 10:30 a.m.
Session 2 – 10:30 – 12:15 a.m.

Test Time
Session 1 – 9:00 – 10:15 a.m.
Break 10:15 – 10:30 a.m.
Session 2 – 10:30 – 11:45 a.m.

Classes will begin at 12:45 p.m.
Period 1 classes – 12:45 – 1:38 p.m.
Period 4 classes – 1:43 – 2:33 p.m.
Period 5 classes – 2:37 – 3:30 p.m.
