Peer Mediation Program

The Peer Mediation Program is in its second year at Earl Haig. The program involves students assisting other students to resolve conflict(s). It’s the hope that students will be part of the solution to their problem while at the same time learning the necessary skills needed in coping with day to day issues and/or conflicts that may come up. This is a constructive alternative to dealing with issues that would otherwise be handled by counsellors and/or vice-principals. Conflict resolution is a life skill that can be used in everyday situations and hopefully throughout their lifetimes. The Peer Mediators have been trained by YOUCAN a non-profit organization based out of Ottawa. Mr. Panagopoulos and Ms. Pape are coordinating the program under the auspices of the Guidance department with referrals coming from students, teachers, Guidance Counsellors and Administration. The forms requesting peer mediation are available in the Guidance Office. For further information see Mr. Panagopoulos in Guidance.
