We have classes booked Thursday and Friday this week (Sept 16th and 17th). The library doors will be open for the first 15 minutes of the P2 each of these days. Students who come to the library to work are expected to stay for the whole period. Plan ahead if you need the library during P2 on Sept 16th & 17th. Talk to a teacher-librarian earlier in the week if this poses a problem for you.

Looking forward to seeing you back or meeting you for the first time. We’ve got some new staff this year (Ms. Antoniou, Mr. Go and Ms. Khan will be here part-time). We are continuing to make changes to our new EHSS Library website. You’ll also notice a whole new look to the TDSB Library site, along with some additional new databases. We’ve also got lots of new books on display including lots of manga.

The library will be open for business as usual Friday September 10th. If you need something before then email Mrs. Hall (ruth.hall2@tdsb.on.ca) or Mr. Kopyto (marc.kopyto@tdsb.on.ca).

Guest Author Susan Juby “Getting the Girl” visiting May 11th

I’ve always thought of Susan Juby as a light-hearted, humourous author of teen fiction (Alice I Think, Miss Smithers, Another Kind of Cowboy, Getting the Girl). What I didn’t realize is that she spent most of her teen years coping with life by abusing drugs and alcohol. She talks quite frankly about what happened to her in her latest book, an autobiography entitled Nice Recovery. Hear her interview on CBC Radio here (if you don’t want to listen to the whole show you can advance the scroll bar to get into the segment on Juby – about 3/4 of the way along)

Guest Speaker – Holocaust survivor

Add a comment

Today during Period 1 the library was closed for a guest speaker. Mrs. Yermus’ mom, a survivor of the Holocaust came to share her stories with students from Ms. Lenchak and Ms. Lue’s classes. One student said to me, “I’ve heard Holocaust survivor speak before, but I was in grade 6 then, I understand it a lot more now.”

If you want to hear more stories, consider borrowing one of the survivor memoirs published by the Azreli Foundation. They tell the stories of survivors living in Canada. Listen to Paul Henri Rips reading from his book by clicking on the title of his book  E/96: Fate Undecided

New Manga finally here! (Post Sample)
