Researching a topic

Stage 1: Brainstorm a list of questions (GG 13-14) on your topic
- Devise a list of search terms you may use that relate to your topic. Consider the synonyms or other names by which your topic may be called (e.g., Kubodu = Bushido)
- Get an overview for your topic (context, background) using encyclopedias and reference texts on martial arts
Stage 2/3: Using your search terms, find relevant academic websites and articles in academic journals
- review the website evaluation sheet. Make sure you are using websites that are affiliated with an academic or government institution. Generally .edu, .gov, gov.on.ca
- use [allintitle: _________] to find search term in the title of the page and [filetype:pdf] to find all documents of that type (pdfs are generally documents posted by academic and government institutions
